Local Students Compete in Envirothon
On April 26, nearly 500 high school students from Southwest Ohio competed at the Area IV Envirothon competition, held at Chenoweth Trails in Darke County. The Envirothon is sponsored by local Soil and Water Conservation Districts. At this team event, students are tested in their knowledge of five areas: soils, wildlife, aquatics, forestry, and current environmental issues. In preparation for the contest, students gain a greater awareness of natural resources and environmental issues, and get to meet professionals in the industry.
Twin Valley South students represented our area with three teams competing. Student participants included Haley Back, Tommy Schleiger, Jesse Woods, Jacob Bassler, Aaron Deaton, Josh Chapman, Jacob Jackson, Chyann Kendel, Audrey Chesney, JJ Utz, Chad Ehler, Kenzi Futrell, and Jared Kirkpatrick. The team of Back, Schleiger, Woods, Bassler and Deaton placed 15th out of 95 teams. High school science teacher, Melissa Rieger, coached the students.
